Anime Tuesdays: Shelter (Short Film)

I know this might come as a shock, but I’m talking about Porter Robinson again. Are you tired of me? Because personally, I’m a little tired of myself. Yet, this doesn’t change the fact that you should watch Porter’s anime music video Shelter created in collaboration with A1 Pictures and Crunchyroll. (I rant about it in detail here). Aside from providing me with the jam of a lifetime, I have also been able to make tough guys cry by making them watch this. And that, my friends, is a beautiful  thing.

The Premise

“What will become of me from now on?” Rin asks while seemingly drowning in a sea of voices memories. Her peacefully eerie musings are interrupted by jagged flashes of a violent event. Soon enough, we resurface in Rin’s room where she offers us a tour of her world via tablet *queue Porter and Madeon*. For the next six minutes, you’ll be mesmerized by the artistic prowess of A-1’s animation, especially when mixed with Porter’s signature style. The surrealist illustrations popularized in his Worlds tour are incorporated into Rin’s surroundings, and since Porter wrote the story, it unsurprisingly fits it like a glove. The beauty will distract you and even fool you into happiness, until revealing that Rin is living (or is trapped) inside of a futuristic simulation.

Why You Should Watch It

Honestly, reading this thing has taken you longer than watching the actual video. Which is shame because Madeon’s voice is not here to lull you into Porter Robinson’s sick beat or anything. Also, people have gone crazy over Shelter, so the kind of merchandise you can get your hands on is magical. And, if we can agree that the best part of watching anime is being able to rock out to the opening once you’re done with it, then Shelter is like eating the cake without having to make it. Now, I can’t say if that means you get to have it and eat it at the same time, but do as you wish. All you have to do is press play:

And that’s it.

I’m done talking about Porter Robinson.

For today.
