We all know grad students are the biggest nerds in town. I mean, who else would subject themselves to endless years of extra study? To endure their sad existence, grad students turn to self-deprecating humor. It was only a matter of time before a PhD candidate created the Tumblr account Lego Grad Student. The starring Lego describes itself as just “a hollow head struggling to make it through a blocky world.” Even if this feeling hits closer to home for funding-dependent grad students, I think many of us can empathize regardless. Feeling lost and afraid isn’t anything new for 20-somethings.
The creator confessed he used to spend hours creating Lego sets as a child. He rek he hit a roadblock (lol?) in his research and needed to disconnect from life, he turned to Legos. Is this art? Is this genius? Or is it too much procrastination? You can be the judge of that by scrolling through some of Lego Grad Student’s best posts. If you love them, you can also follow him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. If you’re a grad student, you’ll probably want to follow them all. That way it’ll be like getting a friendly pat in the back through every form of social media. You know, since you never know what you’re going to have time for any given day.
While you laugh and enjoy these posts, remember this is also a lot of people’s real life. People who also had to spend a lot of money just to be able to apply to these programs—and ultimately get rejected from most (if not all). Yay!
