6 Shows to Watch if You’re Addicted to Coffee
Thursdays are rough, man. Your alarm goes off and once again you are completely unable to unstick your eyelids. It’s the fourth time this week, and it just isn’t Friday yet. You can’t think of any consolation as you’re brushing your teeth, washing your face, and hating yourself. That is until you smell something, the elixir of gods, the awakener of souls, your gift from past you to present you: the coffee you set up last night.
Slaves to the grind are also slaves to caffeine. We know we have a problem as the coffee cups pile up on our desks and the residue of heart palpitations mixes in with our work anxiety. But we don’t want to be changed. Oh, no. We want to keep finding the best coffee route, the most excellent grain, the ultimate brewing method. Our coffee has to be great.
But sometimes we do feel bad about it. Not gonna lie. Our teeth are yellowing and our hands are shaking and our eyeballs are twitching. It’s cool. There’s ways to cope.
Sometimes TV shows help me ignore this coffee problem I have. I feel validated when one of my favorite characters has one more cup than me in any given episode. Damn, it just feels good to be understood. So, here’s my compilation of shows to watch if you ever feel the need to legitimize your addiction to coffee:
1. Gilmore Girls:
Let’s start with the screamingly obvious. Lorelai Gilmore is the epitome of a coffeeholic. Yeah, Rory is addicted too, but Lorelai’s coffee moments are too precious to even compare. Plus, Alexis Bledel doesn’t even like coffee, and thus her cups were always filled with Coke (sin!).
2. Twin Peaks:
While David Lynch must be on at least 300 other things AND coffee, Dale Cooper just relies on the one substance. The man pretty much decides to stay on his assigned case because, in his own words, Twin Peaks makes a damn fine cup of coffee.
While I’ve never watched more than a few episodes of this one, there’s one episode that is Nobel Price worthy. In it, Fry drinks 100 straight cups of coffee. I don’t know if it’s because he was sleeping for however many thousand years, but the delivery boy surely had some caffeine withdrawal.
^ And he rocks his own meme.
4. Adventure Time:
Of course these quirky characters have to be fueled by magic, and that magic is caffeine.
^ Also, this has to be the ultimate refill. I mean, the cup’s still full.
5. Big Bang Theory:
Remember that famous episode where Sheldon bangs on Penny’s door saying, “Penny, Penny, Penny” through infinity? I can’t forget it because a) it was awesome, and b) my dad now knocks on my door saying “Gaby, Gaby, Gaby.” But my point is that in Penny’s universe, this neverending loop sounds a lot more like “Coffee, Coffee, COFFEE.” Half of these instances, however, have more to do with her trying to lure men into her chambers. Well played, Penny. Well played.
For crying out loud, the gang almost exclusively hangs out at the Central Perk (hilarious name, btw). While they’re not portrayed as coffeeholics themselves, the warm and fuzzy feeling of a café will accompany you throughout the ten seasons. Really, no show has dedicated more screen time to my favorite activity ever: the drinking of the coffee.
And let’s not forget: Chandler taught us that sometimes there is a dark side to caffeine.
Do you know any other shows that are all about the java? Do send them my way through the comments section down below. Lord knows I need ’em.
